I am a seventh generation native potter from Santa Clara Pueblo. My family creates pottery the same way my ancestors did over a thousand years ago. These traditional deep carved, stone burnished pieces are not made with a wheel nor are they fired in a temp. controlled kiln. We hand coil our pots, using experience to obtain symmetry and we fire outside in a bonfire. Its called vacuum induction firing by the scientific community. All clay is dug from a vein that runs throughout the Jemez Mts. these pieces are not glazed, but rubbed to a mirror finish with a stone. Pieces range from a couple hundred for recent specimens, to historic pieces made by my great grandmother, Margaret Tafoya, and her mother, Sarafina, with retail values up to about two hundred thousand. My family's pots can be seen in the Smithsonian Institute as well as rollerfamilypottery.com. Orders accepted depending on difficulty. All prices are negotiable.for further info., i'd love to hear from you.:-)
