I was raised in a house filled with my mother's artwork. I still remember the watercolor she did of a mouse in a pink tutu that hung above my dresser until junior high. And I remember sitting next to her desk as she sketched, asking if I could watch, and eventually if she could teach me. I remember her giving me private lessons in the living room in junior high. And I remember when we finally set up twin easels in her studio, and spent afternoons painting together. My training is not traditional. I did take extra art classes in high school, and I spent a week at an NIU art camp every summer for 6 years. Since then, however, my lessons have been purely trial and error. While some of my past work is in oil, due to space constrictions my current work is in acrylic. Where subject matter is concerned, I tend to paint things I want to see as opposed to those I do. Or I try to capture an emotion I want to express or long to feel. My degree is in theatre from Loyola University-Chicago.
