BIOGRAPHY
I have been a fine art photographer since 1968 and a NYC Street Artist since 2003. From mid-2007 I had been selling in SoHo, but mainly in Union Square Park.
Unfortunately, a new set of Park Rules went into effect on July 19th, 2010, severely limiting the 300 or more NYC Street Artists to 18 marginalized perimeter spots on Farmers' Market days, and 59 on non-market days, in Union Square Park.
The members of A.R.T.I.S.T. (artists' response to illegal state tactics) are fighting this ruling in the courts. As I speak, we are awaiting an imminent ruling by a panel of NYC Judges on one of our lawsuits for a temporary restraining order on some of these new Rules.
If their ruling goes against us and favors Mayor Bloomberg's and Parks Commissioner Benepe's unfair and cruel privatization agenda, we must each find other venues to sell our work ... because it could take years to resolve ... although we do expect to ultimately win on First Amendment FREE SPEECH grounds.
In the meantime, thank you for any support you can give us.
